After Mint · Spending tracker

Looking for a Mint alternative? Here's the no-bank-login kind.

Intuit shut Mint down in March 2024. If what you used Mint for was seeing where your money went, Pennydance does that part, without your bank login and without ads.

Pennydance spending report: category donut and daily spend chart

What Mint was, and what Pennydance is

Mint was free because it was paid for by ads and by recommending credit cards and loans. To show your spending, it needed a live connection to your bank and card accounts. When Intuit closed it, it pointed users to Credit Karma, which works the same way.

Pennydance starts from the other end. You log each buy yourself, in about three seconds, by typing or saying it. That means no bank connection, no ad network in the app, and a ledger that stays on your phone. What you get back is a record of what you actually bought, not a list of merchant codes.

Who should pick something else

Pennydance isn't a Mint clone, and it's better to know that before you install it. If you want transactions to import automatically, or you want balances, net worth, investments or a credit score in one place, you want a bank-sync app. Paid options include Monarch Money, YNAB and Copilot Money; Credit Karma is free and funded the way Mint was.

Pick Pennydance if the part of Mint you'd miss is the “where did my money go this month?” screen, and you'd rather not give a company access to your bank to get it.

Questions

What happened to Mint?

Intuit shut Mint down in March 2024 and pointed its users to Credit Karma, which Intuit also owns.

No. Pennydance has no import. Most people find it easier to start fresh: add your subscriptions first, which takes a few minutes, then log buys as you make them.

Is Pennydance free like Mint was?

The Free plan is $0 forever, with 100 new entries a month, subscriptions, full reports and CSV export. Unlike Mint, it is not paid for by ads or financial offers. Plus is a one-time $5.99, and Premium, which adds AI, is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year.

Mint and Credit Karma are trademarks of Intuit Inc. Monarch Money, YNAB and Copilot Money are trademarks of their owners. Pennydance is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. Comparisons describe Mint as it worked before it closed in 2024.

Where did it go?
Now you'll know.
